Sofia Sees Hope Joins The Travelers Championship Birdies for Charity

 In News

Cromwell, CT (May 30, 2017) — Sofia Sees Hope is pleased to announce it has joined The Travelers Championship PGA golf tournament’s Birdies for Charity program, a pledge-based fundraiser that is based upon the number of birdies made during the 2017 Travelers Championship, June 19-25, 2017.

Supporters of Sofia Sees Hope (SSH) can pledge per birdie made during the course of the tournament. For example, if 1,500 birdies are made: 2 cents = $30; 10 cents = $150; $1.00 = $1500. In 2016,  1,841 birdies were made. (“What’s a birdie? you ask. It’s a score of 1-under par on any individual golf hole.)

“We are happy to be part of this wonderful program, which is included in Connecticut’s premier golf event,” said Beth Pite, interim executive director of Sofia Sees Hope. “Because 100% of every pledge collected goes directly to SSH, this can have a huge impact on our ability to provide education and support for families affected by blindness caused by inherited retinal disease, and to fund research for cures and treatments.”

Additionally, CohnReznick is the presenting sponsor of the Birdies for Charity Bonus Bucks Program. CohnReznick has generously donated $50,000 to be distributed among participating nonprofits through a 15% matching program. This year, Ford has become a supporting sponsor of the Bonus Bucks program as well through their contribution of $15,000. Each organization that raises money through the Birdies for Charity program will receive a minimum of 15% of the pledges collected as a bonus, up to a maximum of $11,250.

To participate, donors can visit http://bit.ly/SSHBirdies and choose their pledge per birdie (or a flat donation).

Among the marquee players attending this year’s tournament are Jason Day, Bubba Watson, Jim Furyk, Zach Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Russell Knox.

About Sofia Sees Hope

Sofia Sees Hope is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit retinal disease advocacy organization dedicated to providing information and support to individuals and families affected by Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA) and other rare inherited retinal diseases. Sofia Sees Hope also raises funds for research to support more effective diagnosis and treatment, with the hope of an eventual cure for LCA. From the beginning, Sofia Sees Hope has worked to engage and encourage people affected by blindness caused by LCA. The organization was co-founded in 2014 by Laura Manfre, whose daughter was diagnosed with LCA. Sofia Sees Hope offers opportunities for individuals and families to connect, share information and provide mutual support. Annually it hosts Dinner in the Dark, one of southeastern Connecticut’s most popular gala events, to raise funds and to give supporters an idea of what living with blindness is like.
