Flexibility, Growth and Drive Cure This Rare Disease

 In Blog

Being blind, or living with someone who is, requires all sorts of adaptation and flexibility. Creating a nonprofit to cure blindness caused by rare inherited retinal diseases like Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA) requires even more of that, along with skills in juggling, multitasking and persuasion.

Laura Manfre, the founder and board chair of Sofia Sees Hope, has these qualities in abundance. For three years, she built an organization while holding down a full time job. She recruited a board, managed a high energy event committee, and persuaded professionals to work at a discount. The team included website and graphic designers, marketing and management consultants, videographers, bookkeepers and office help.

Now it’s time to be flexible and adapt again. While Laura will stay on as board chair and will continue to chair the event committee, we are hiring part time professionals to take on other tasks. Putting an infrastructure in place will enable Sofia Sees Hope to fulfill our national outreach and education for families with Leber congenital amaurosis and other inherited retinal diseases.

Do you know someone who’s an experienced grant researcher and writer? An experienced major gifts officer? An experienced office manager?

They’d be part of a team, but not required to come to an office. Candidates must have a high level of comfort with technology and with working remotely. Self-starters with an “I’ll figure it out” attitude and attention to detail. People who pride themselves on writing well and never missing a deadline. Folks who are motivated to make a real difference in the lives of others and support our work of curing blindness caused by LCA and other rare inherited retinal diseases.

Does this describe someone you know, who’d like meaningful part time work?   If they have strong, relevant experience and would enjoy flexible work that can be done from home, have them look at Sofia Sees Hope, and connect with us at info@sofiaseeshope.org.
